F22 Raptor At Fairford

Made it to the Royal International Air Tattoo (RIAT) at RAF Fairford on Thursday. I was fortunate enough to see (and video) the display by the United States Air Force (USAF) F22 Raptor. A quite amazing plane.

It better be after what we paid for it :)

F-22s are awesome! I live near an Air Force base, and we occasionally see them flying in for pilot training at Randolph AFB. Too bad our moron president and his minions/lackeys cut funding for more Raptors, they're money well spent.

Very cool. The only time I've seen a takeoff similar to that - i.e. short run then vertical - was many years ago. That was a British Harrier (utterly outdated now, but brilliant for its time).

The Harrier as a bomber is amazingly capable, and is tooled up with cutting edge weapons and systems. Its outdated in as much as our GR9 version doesn't have any air air capablity to talk about, although arguably as a ground attack aircraft that is very much a secondary consideration.

It's a shame we don't have any of them in the RAF. Although that said they are amazingly expensive at $200 per aircraft (this does not include the R&D costs) !
