F-35B on the USS Wasp

Some very cool footage here of the new F-35B (Lightning II) doing trial take-off and landings on the USS Wasp. The sheer size of the door that opens above the lift fan is the thing that surprised me the most. - -

Very interesting. I'm surprised that the dorsal hatch faces forward, it would get harder to close as forward air speed picks up, acting as a giant air break, and must be prone to being ripped off.

I agree tend the stresses on that door must be immense. I imagine there must be significant suction effect from the lift fan trying to pull the door closed as well.
